Only a month left before we can discover Furiosa, the spin-off of Mad Max, At the movie theater. The 5th film in the franchise after the initial trilogy from the 80s and Fury Road in 2015 promises to be breathtaking given the first two trailers released by Warner Bros. Good news today, the duration of the film has just been revealed, and it is substantial.

Expected in May, the spin-off of Mad Max Furiosa stock up on information. And that’s normal, less than a month before its release in theaters. Directed by George Miller, the film is placed chronologically before Fury Road (2015), while Immortan Joe’s Imperator at the time played by Charlize Theron, was not yet under his command.
In a world in decline, young Furiosa (Ana Taylor) is torn from the Green Earth and captured by a horde of bikers led by the fearsome Dementus. As she tries to survive the Desolation, Immortan Joe, and find her way home, Furiosa has only one obsession.
George Miller therefore brings out the camera to precisely film the wastelands, the big bikes and action scenes which once again promise to be breathtaking, all guaranteed without (or almost) CGI. We clearly recognize the stamp of the Australian director when we learn thata 15-minute action scene required no less than 78 days of filming and the presence of no less than 200 stuntmen on set every day.
The duration of Furiosa unveiled, a record
If such a scene to feature the heroine played by Anya Taylor-Joy may seem long, it is nothing compared to the length of the film, which will be exactly 2:28. It’s longer than Fury Road and its 2 hours, but also the three other films released between 1979 and 1985. A record for the franchise which is not so surprising, at a time when blockbusters and sequels to lucrative franchises always want to be longer and more spectacular.

This will not fail to satisfy fans of the post-apocalyptic license. And for those who fear having to deal with a repeat of Fury RoadGeorge Miller immediately reassures. “Furiosa will be different. A film doesn’t have to be a repeat of what we’ve just done. It has to be ‘singularly familiar,’ as I like to say.” George Miller’s film, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Christopher Hemsworth, will be released on May 22, 2024 in France at the cinema, in the wake of its Cannes preview.
