Megalopolis, the latest film by Francis Ford Coppola, will be released in French theaters

It’s one of the most anticipated films of the last four decades and one that everyone will want to see at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it is selected in the official competition. Megalopolisthe latest film by Francis Ford Coppola, legend of American cinema who already has two Palmes d’Or under his belt (for Secret conversation in 1974 and Apocalypse Now in 1979), finally has a distributor in France according to Point. It was not a given since the film still does not have a production or distribution studio in the United States and Coppola went into debt for a long time to develop this crazy project that he has dreamed of since the 1980s.

The new feature film from the director of the trilogy Godfather is a high-risk bet. With MegalopolisCoppola ventures into the world of science fiction with a top-notch cast: Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Dustin Hoffman, Shia LaBeouf, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Jon Voight and Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei in Game Of Thrones). The film tells the story of the opposition between two politicians who want to rebuild a futuristic megalopolis, possibly New York, after a disaster which ravaged the city. But their visions of the future, diametrically opposed, will endanger the survival of local residents.

Largely self-produced by Coppola, Megalopolis has still not found a production studio and therefore a distributor for a theatrical release in the United States. Fortunately, this would no longer be the case in France thanks to the Pacte, which recently distributed big French hits internationally like Wretched by Ladj Ly or the phenomenon of 2023, Anatomy of a fall by Justine Triet. After its preview in Cannes, Megalopolis should be released in theaters this fall.
