Thunderbolts*which began filming on February 26, will be released April 30, 2025 in our dark rooms. The film is highly anticipated by fans and many even believe that it could relaunch Marvel after the few films with more mixed results that have been released recently. Who are the Thunderbolts*?
Effectively, Thunderbolts* will feature Florence Pugh, another Black Widow. She will lead the eponymous group, Thunderbolts, with other heroes like Red Guardian, played by David Harbor (Stranger Things) and Taskmaster, both of which appeared in Black Widowbut also Ghost, seen in Ant-Man and finally John Walker as well as Bucky Barnes, seen in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. All these little people will be orchestrated by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine who was also introduced in the series Falcon and the Winter Soldiera character well known for being the evil equivalent of Nick Fury, the leader of the Avengers, in the comics.
The group forms what one might call Marvel’s equivalent of the Suicide Squad. In other words, a group of anti-heroes who clash with the more classic values and methods of the heroes we know (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, etc.). At the moment, we don’t yet know what the Thunderbolts will do. However, the presence of the character Sentry in the cast gives us some clues.
Indeed, Sentry is a very special character who has not yet appeared on our screens. We can compare him to an equivalent of Superman with a little extra thing: each good action he performs triggers a negative equivalent with Void, his evil alter ego. We can imagine that such a big stake and a new character will be at the heart of the plot. We can already imagine the team fighting against one of their own to prevent these harmful repercussions.
A change of title which gives other clues
Yes, you read that correctly, that’s not a typo, Thunderbolts* is indeed written with an asterisk. The title of the film underwent this change recently during its announcement at CinemaCon which took place from April 8 to 11. Although the producer does not want to say more until the film is released, some already have some ideas. The asterisk is a typographical sign which means a reference to a note or another word. Fans then think that Thunderbolts* will temporarily replace another title, as if it were corrected so as not to reveal the nature of the first. Many think that this other title would be the Dark Avengersa clever way to reveal what’s next for Marvel and what’s at stake in the films Avengers 5 And Avengers: Secret Wars planned for 2026 and 2027.
