Blink TwiceZoë Kravitz’s first film, was revealed in a distressing trailer.

A vacation gone wrong is a fairly classic starting premise for a horror film. Get Out, The Ritual or The hills Have Eyes all use the arrival in an unknown and falsely inviting place as a weapon to trigger fear. Opposite of the genre of home invasionwhich sees the horror occurring directly in the home, what we could call the genre of “rotten vacations” (which would often be close to the folk horror) places its heroes directly in the territory of the threat.

This is the mechanics that the Catwoman of The Batman seems to have chosen to explore for her first time behind the camera, which is reminiscent of the approach of the actress Olivia Wilde who had directed Don’t Worry Darling in 2022 (which was not, however, its first achievement). Kravitz therefore seems to be jumping head-on into the horror thriller genre, with a film that could be placed between The menu And Midsommar. Her Blink Twice has just been revealed in a trailer.

anxiety blink twice

For her first film as a director, Zoë Kravitz does not seem to have done things by halves. The atmosphere that emerges from these first extracts, increasingly nightmarish, is very heavy. The trailer gives the impression ofa mystery to Knives Outand at the same time an Ari Aster-style sectarian trap : the mixture is intriguing.

Photography by Adam Newport-Berra (The Bear, Euphoria) seems perfectly suited to the project, and his images are eye-catching while constantly making you feel that something is not quite right. Here, Channing Tatum plays billionaire Slater King and steps out of his usual comfort zone comedies and action films. The actor of Jump Street appears perfectly at ease in this ambiguous character whose true intentions are hidden. The opportunity for the actor to broaden his palette?

Not sure if you’ll smile at the film

The real star of this Blink Twice should be Naomie Ackie though. The actress, revealed in The Young Lady, could well see her career take off if the success of the film is there, especially since she is also starring in the highly anticipated Mickey 17. Has the actress found, in the role of Frida, the performance that will propel her?

To complete the casting of this intriguer Blink Twicewe also find Christian Slater, Kyle MacLachlan, Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) and Simon Rex (Red Rocket). To discover all the secrets of Slater King Island, However, you will have to wait a little: the release of the film is scheduled for August 21, 2024.
