Unanimously hated by the press and the public, this Netflix blockbuster is nevertheless number 1 in the world!
The success of a film is not always measured by its quality. A new example is given to us with Rebel Moon, part 2: The Slasher, second part of the diptych signed Zack Snyder.
Already at the end of last year, the first part of the film had not convinced Netflix subscribers, who classified it among the worst films by the American filmmaker with an average of 2.5 out of 5 (2974 ratings recorded on AlloCiné).
The second part of the film seems set to do even worse, the film totaling an average spectator rating of 2.3 out of 5 among 575 votes (it is now the lowest rated in the director’s filmography, tied with Army of the Dead ). The excellent start of Rebel Moon 2 seems to counterbalance the criticism, but this apparent success must nevertheless be put into perspective.
A simple facade success?
For its first week of operation, the film appears in the top 10 most viewed films on the platform in 82 countries. Rebel Moon holds first place in France, Germany, South Africa and Turkey in particular. The first part of Rebel Moon occupies the third position in this world ranking.
But the start of the film is nevertheless a disappointment. Despite the 44 million hours of viewing recorded by Netflix, the film displays 21.4 million views, a total below the 23.5 million sessions totaled by the first film after one week. A disappointing score for such a production which reflects a disinterest of part of the audience of the first film for this sequel.

A new failure for Zack Snyder?
None of this therefore bodes very well for the future of the franchise, despite Zack Snyder’s desire to shoot five or six films. Supposed to introduce a universe destined to become Netflix’s Star Wars, the first two Rebel Moon do not seem to have succeeded in fulfilling their objective.
Until a decision is made by the platform, the director has already embarked on new projects including an animated series designed in collaboration with a famous French studio. After his ouster from the DC Universe, and the failure of his Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon franchises, will Zack Snyder one day manage to return to success?
