Actor David Corenswet, freshly chosen to play Superman in the DC Universe (DCU) reboot led by James Gunn, had actually auditioned for another major superhero role a few years earlier. This was Adam Warlock’s character in the film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 from Marvel Studios. Information confirmed by the director himself, who however did not remember this audition.

It’s on the social network Threads that James Gunn responded to a fan’s question asking if David Corenswet auditioned for the role of Adam Warlock. The filmmaker explained that he had asked the actor about this. The latter confirmed to him that he had passed an audition, even if Gunn admits not to remember it.
The role ultimately went to William Poulterwho made a remarkable performance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Fans praised this casting choice and the British actor’s interpretation. It is therefore difficult to imagine what David Corenswet would have given in the shoes of the powerful Adam Warlock.
