On May 16, moviegoers will be able to discover Jeanne du Barry in dark rooms. And the director admits it, she did not immediately think of the American star for her film. “I wrote the film with a French actor in mind, who liked my work and gave me his agreement in principle. After three years, when the screenplay was finished, I called him back. He told me that he was no longer interested that the cinema was dead and there was only Netflix. And he hung up”, she begins by indicating. For her, it was a shock. “I looked at my phone and saw that the conversation had lasted three minutes. Three years wiped out in three minutes.”

After months of brooding, Maïwenn was able to count on a friend who told her: “Don’t give up, make a list of actors you love, whatever their origin, have fun!” In his list, Johnny Depp appeared second.
