In MotoGP, like many motor sports, there is the reality of the general classification, closely linked to the equipment available to the drivers. And then there is also pure talent or even merit, for the most needy and enduring. In this matter, the hierarchy can be very different from that of the championship.

MotoGP: some explanations about our hierarchy

Also, The Auto Sport Mag offers you its own ranking of the ten best drivers of the 2024 season. Obviously, this list is not exhaustive and cannot be presented as a single truth. In any case, we have compiled this ranking taking into account the bikes available to the riders this season or their experience in the premier category. In addition, some top drivers have lost places in our eyes.

The case of Jorge Martin is special because, on the one hand, he demonstrated that he was capable of progressing and working on his past weaknesses to become MotoGP world champion. But on the other hand and despite the fact that he is probably the fastest driver over a lap, the Spaniard has only won three races. That is to say, one of the lowest victory scores in history, for a world champion in the premier category. Compare to the 11 successes (his personal best) of Francesco Bagnaia, vice-world champion due to too many falls.

Clearly, there was undoubtedly room to do better than the first two in the championship, in our opinion. Behind, it was impossible for us not to crown Pedro Acosta. His talent is extraordinary and his first part of the season was simply exceptional. Also, we do not hesitate to compare his mastery to that of Marc Marquez. Namely, a driver capable of going beyond the limitations of his mechanics to fight at the front. Without a doubt, he will be world champion very soon.

And since we are talking about the Gresini driver, it is impossible not to pay tribute to him as well. Having left an official Honda team in bad shape, after many injuries, the Iberian rider was able to bounce back by taking the risk of evolving with an older generation Ducati. Quickly, he proved that he was still that specimen, capable of winning in many circumstances, whatever his machine…

Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco, special mention

Finally, even if some will logically see a cowardly side to it, it was impossible for us not to highlight the performances of our French pilots. First of all, Fabio Quartararo who, with an inferior Yamaha, achieved some exploits. Particularly thanks to exceptional starts, which we can compare, once again, to those of a certain Marc Marquez. Furthermore, the Frenchman dominated Alex Rins even if we must take into account the physical state of the Spaniard this year.

Then, let's finish with Johann Zarco, who will have generated a lot of excitement, including outside . Indeed, his appearances in Q2 and his Top ten in the race will have marked many fans. Because the tricolor, he too, knew how to pilot his Honda like no one else will have been able to do, in 2024. There remains these recalcitrant departures, which perhaps cost him a few more points. But let's highlight his pugnacity, his endurance too, key elements which will undoubtedly allow him to reap results soon.

Here is our very personal hierarchy for this MotoGP season.

  1. Pedro Acosta
  2. Marc Marquez
  3. Johann Zarco
  4. Jorge Martin
  5. Francesco Bagnaia
  6. Fabio Quartararo
  7. Enéa Bastianini
  8. Brad Binder
  9. Fabio Di Giannantonio
  10. Maverick Vinalès
