If the 6th round of the JuniorGP championship at MotorLand Aragon awarded the title of champion of the European Talent Cup to young Carlos Cano (SeventyTwo Artbox Racing Team) aged 14, the applicants for the Grand Prix in the JuniorGP category still have two races in Estoril, in Portugal, to attract the eye of the MotoGP paddock.
The final round was scheduled to take place in Valencia before the devastating floods hit the region. JuniorGP™ continues to echo the message of support sent by MotoGP™ and stands alongside the Valencia community. This time, Sunday will be build-up day, with on-track action starting on Monday and the races bringing in new champions on Wednesday.
In JuniorGP™, Alvaro Carpe (STV Laglisse Racing), which will ride under the Red Bull KTM Ajo colors next year in Moto3, has the ball in its court. With a 43-point lead in the title race, he can be anywhere in the top eight to secure the title, regardless of what his main rival can do Jesus Rios (MRE Talent). Both had three wins and dominated the season, Rios in the first half, Carpe in the second. At Estoril earlier in the season, neither was able to make the top 8, with Rios making a tire choice error while Carpe had to come up from 30th on the grid to 9th.
Maximo Quiles (Estrella Galicia 0,0), next year with CFMOTO Aspar Team in GP, is tied on points with Rios and is therefore mathematically in contention for the title although he has not won a race this season.
At a point in Quiles, Adrian Cruces (Finetwork Team) finished every race in the points until its only race out of the points since the start of the season, at Aragon. Earlier in the year, Estoril celebrated Rico Salmelathe first Finn to win in the category. Guido Pini (SeventyTwo Artbox Racing Team) is fifth overall after two wins in the last four races, while Marcos Uriarte (CFMOTO Aspar Racing Team) – a podium at Estoril in May – is sixth.
Regarding the Moto2 European Championship™, Roberto Garcia (Fantic Cardoso Racing) is 19 points ahead of
Mattia Casadei (Team Ciatti-Boscoscuro), which means that a place in the top 10 is enough for him, regardless of what the Boscoscuro driver can do. Casadei needs to be in the top two to have any chance of being crowned, something he has failed to do since Estoril earlier in the season, when he was P1 and P2 in Race 1 and Race 2 respectively. Casadei's teammate, Alberto Surrais at 25 points, but due to victory counting, he cannot be crowned champion even if he matches Roberto Garcia's score. Garcia's #31 and Casadei's #40 both won at Estoril in May, but the late November date could change that.
With 25 points at stake, John Gimbert (Promoracing) can aim up to the Top 8, Lorenzo Fellon (SF Racing) the Top 12, while Charles Aubry (JEG Racing) will continue his learning.
The title raceEuropean Talent Cup has already been settled since Carlos Cano (SeventyTwo Artbox Racing Team) won Race 2 last time out at Aragon and, with it, the crown for 2024. He is looking to cap off a memorable season, with six wins, including a double at Estoril, and five wins in seven races . Having only left the podium three times, the 14-year-old is looking to set a new record in the category. He has already equaled the record ofBe Guevara in 2020 for the most wins in a season, and now he has the opportunity to make it seven. Behind Cano, the Argentine Marco Morelli (MLav Racing) should be in P2, even if
Giulio Pugliese (CFMOTO Aspar Junior Team) et
David Gonzalez (AC Racing Team) can still mathematically reach second place.
