Aron Canet outrageously dominated the Moto2 Solidarity Grand Prix in Barcelona, despite a chaotic start, which saw him fall back in the hierarchy. Unquestionably the strong man of this second part of the championship, the Spaniard has defined a clear objective for next year: to become Moto2 world champion.
The fastest in free practice, then in P1, Aron Canet left nothing to his opponents in P2, any more than in Q2. Dominant during all the sessions where the time counts, he then revealed some weaknesses at the start of the race. Tenth at the end of a hectic first lap, the Spaniard nevertheless did not lose concentration. He then did what he had been able to do since the start of the weekend: line up the times!
In turn, he got rid of his competitors. After just two laps, he was back in the fight for the podium. By the third lap, he had regained the lead, and only had to manage his pace during this event which he won with ease.
A success which once again testifies to the domination of the No. 44 in this second part of the 2024 Moto2 world championship. Unfortunately for the Fantic team, the Spaniard's awakening came late, since he began to reveal his full potential at Silverstone, at the start of the second half of the season.
No reason to have regrets for Aron Canet who once again insists on the objective he has set for next year. After
four wins, more than any other rider in Moto2 this year, eight podiums, six pole positions and the title of vice-world championCanet just has to get his hands on the world crown.
“I'm really happy with this victory, it was an exceptional race. I really enjoyed the first laps, recovering the positions I lost at the start, because I love overtaking,
confides the latter after the last event of the season in Valencia.
This victory is special for me. Winning the first Solidarity Grand Prix organized by Dorna has a special meaning because it helps my hometown, Valencia. I want to dedicate this victory to all those who suffered or are still suffering from the flood. I hope I gave the people of Valencia a happy time. »
“I wore a special leather, which is the finest of my career, and it was auctioned off, with the proceeds going to charity, continues the Valencia pilot. I would like to thank my team, Fantic Racing Moto2, for this season. They believed in me from the start, and even though the first part of the championship was not entirely positive, they helped me a lot, and together we managed to improve. Since Silverstone I have been able to race like I always wanted to, and the results speak for themselves. For me we are the best team, and the goal for next year is clear. »
A goal that he will pursue alongside the Belgian driver, Barry Baltus, who will also be aligned with Fantic Racing for the 2025 season after the objective of progressing further, to fight again for the podium that he only knew 'in Qatar this season.
