After eight months and 19 Grands Prix, the final weekend of the 2024 MotoGP season begins today, and several questions remain unanswered: will Jorge Martín win his first world title? Will Francesco Bagnaia save his crown at the last minute? Who will take third place in the championship? The long-awaited outcome begins today with qualifying practice. Follow the session live with us!
Following the cancellation of the Valencia Grand Prix due to flooding, the championship will finally be played on the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit, during the Barcelona “Solidarity” Grand Prix.
A golden opportunity for Jorge Martín
For Jorge Martín, this weekend represents a unique opportunity: to win son first MotoGP title while taking revenge on his great rival, Francesco Bagnaia, after last year's defeat. This title would also have historic significance, because no driver from a satellite team has been crowned champion in the premier category since Valentino Rossi in 2001when he was racing for Team Nastro Azzurro Honda.
L’expert des courses sprint
Jorge Martín could make his dream come true on Saturday thanks to his dominance in sprint races this season. With seven wins, six second places and two third placeshe established himself as the undisputed master of this format. If he wins his eighth sprint tomorrow and widens a gap of more than colon on Bagnaia, he will automatically be crowned champion. To date, Martín has a lead of 24 points in the general classification.
This early victory would allow the Pramac driver to avoid title pressure in the main race on Sunday, a format in which Bagnaia excels. Indeed, the Italian has won the greatest number of Grands Prix this season and would be championship leader if sprint races had not been introduced.
Without the sprint races, Bagnaia would have 345 points to Martín's 321, thus reversing the current dynamic. However, despite its ten Grand Prix victories this season, Bagnaia could lose the title, an unprecedented scenario in the history of MotoGP.
What strategy for Jorge Martín?
The big question remains to know what strategy will adopt the “Martinator”: will he continue to take risks on Saturday to secure the title, or will he choose a more cautious approach?
If, at the end of Sunday's race, the two drivers finish equal on points, Bagnaia would be crowned champion thanks to his greater number of victories in the main races.
The suspense is at its height for this decisive weekend, where strategy, talent and tension will determine who will become the new king of MotoGP!
