Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco currently occupy a place on the MotoGP grid, one at Yamaha and the other at LCR Honda. However, the French generation is not yet present.

Fabio Quartararo is worried about not seeing the younger generation join the World Championship. The one who won the 2021 title in the premier category shares the grid with double Moto2 World Champion Johann Zarco. But in Moto2 and Moto3, French drivers are non-existent.

“I think there is a real lack of enthusiasm. Not for racing, because interest in it has decreased considerably, we see it at which is by far the best Grand Prix in the world. year in terms of attendance But there is no interest in entering the world of racing and motorcycles. There are no French riders in Moto2, none in Moto3 and none in the Junior World Championship. In Spain and Italy, a lot of drivers are emerging because people go to the circuits to drive, such a culture does not exist in ,” he explains to Speedweek.

In Moto2, the last drivers present were Fabio Quartararo and Jules Danilo, during the 2018 season. In Moto3, Lorenzo Fellon is the last French representative to have raced a Grand Prix.

A French pilot must go to Spain or Italy to start

The two French riders on the MotoGP grid started their careers outside France. Fabio Quartararo cut his teeth in Spain while Johann Zarco went to Italy.

“In France there are no championships, there is no one who supports this sport. The level in Spain and Italy is therefore higher than in other countries. All drivers know that between 14 and 16 years old, racing in Spain is almost obligatory there is the highest level. They will not participate in a championship in France if they know that Spain has the best championship”, adds the French driver.
