The Barcelona-Catalunya circuit will host the final of the 2024 MotoGP championship. After the cancellation of the Valencia GP, following the devastating floods which affected the region, the discipline examined the candidacy of several circuits, and the Catalan route appeared as the favorite on the list.
The event will be organized with the aim of supporting the victims of the natural disaster currently hitting Spain, and more particularly Valencia, hence the particular name of the event: the Motul Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona.
This will be the second event of the season to be held at the venue after the 2024 Catalan Grand Prix, won by Pecco Bagnaia. The dates of the event will be the same as those for which the Valencia GP was scheduled, namely from November 15 to 17.
A meeting with immense stakes, since the last act of the fight between Jorge Martín and Pecco Bagnaia will be fought there.
Barcelona, the least restrictive option
MotoGP ruled that “Running in Barcelona was the best possible choice. » The circuit being the easiest option for fans who had already planned to attend the season finale. The location and circuit are also the most efficient choice. It offers, in fact, better accessibility than in Aragon. The other alternative thought by Dorna to replace the Valencia GP.
Racing in Barcelona bothered many personalities in the paddock. The latter deeming the region too close to that impacted by the events. MotoGP therefore wanted to justify this choice in its official announcement.
“The event will be hosted by MotoGP and we remain true to our mission to make a positive impact on people, places and the planet wherever we race. In this case, racing near the Valencian Community will also allow the paddock to put this into action even more directly
Further information will be communicated as soon as possible to fans who wish to witness the fight for the 2024 title, as well as the various initiatives that will take place throughout the weekend to support the help provided to Valencia. »
