This Saturday, Jorge Martin won the sprint race of the Malaysian GP and took advantage of Francesco Bagnaia's fall to widen the gap in the standings. The Spaniard could even be crowned on Sunday.

At the end of the MotoGP season, Jorge Martin carried out a good operation of the day this Saturday at Sepang. Indeed, if Francesco Bagnaia initially achieved pole position during the Malaysian Grand Prix by being the fastest during qualifying, the Spaniard then responded by winning the sprint race a little later in the day. In addition, the Ducati-Pramac rider took advantage of a fall in a corner by the Italian, eight laps from the end, to widen the gap at the top of the riders' standings. Because there are now 29 points difference between Martin and his great rival for the title of world champion. From now on, the latter is in a strong position and could even be crowned this Sunday if he scores nine points more than Bagnaia during the Malaysian Grand Prix (from 8 a.m. in ). Suffice to say that the Ducati rider will not have the right to make mistakes if he wants the suspense to continue.

Martin: “You have to stay focused”

« I think last year I wasn't ready to win. I was fast but I wasn't ready, I was very scared and it had been a difficult moment. This season, I'm a little more mature. It's a privilege to be here at this stage, with this advantage, but it's not over until it's over so we have to stay focused for tomorrow. It's going to be a very long race, I think Pecco (Bagnaia) will take a lot of risks to win tomorrow (Sunday) and it's very hard to beat him in these conditions. He has nothing to lose now, it's all or nothing. I will do my best. I think we are a cut above the others, so in the worst case scenario I will try to finish second and then we will see,” reacted Martin after his victory in the sprint race, in comments quoted by Motosport .
