MotoGP Japan J2, Alex Marquez (Ducati Q10/S7): “Jack Miller slowed me down”

Alex Marquez did well in Japan: while he had a passable qualifying session, he managed to climb to seventh place during the Sprint, also thanks to the retirements in front of him. Still, Marc’s little brother scores new points, even if he is still the penultimate Ducati at the finish. It is clear that this 2024 exercise is not very successful for him, where he managed to win in Sprint twice in the short format last season, in addition to a pole position in the wet in Argentina.

As usual, Alex Marquez spoke more than summarily at the finish of this Sprint. « A positive day, without major clashes. I didn’t have a good qualifying, but we were fast in the race.
Unfortunately, Jack Miller slowed us down a bit. »
he declared. The Australian’s group, very compact, offered beautiful images at the start of the event.

From there, the gaps having been created, there was nothing more to do. “It took me a long time to get over it. » he continued. The large gaps at the finish are one of the particularities of this 2024 season, and when a driver is not in the right group from the start, it is very difficult for him to come back later. Alex Marquez is the example, but it also applies to Jorge Martin.

As is often the case, the 2019 Moto2 world champion remains hopeful for the Sunday race. “The tire will be an important choice for tomorrow, of course. But we have room to do the best possible and be among the best » he concluded. Alex Marquez, in his statements, is always the most optimistic.
