Paulo Fonsecacoach of Milan, analyses in a press conference the 2-1 loss against Fiorentina.
Did you expect a match like this? What was missing?
“Several things were missing. In the first half, we lacked defensive aggressiveness and in duels. The way we conceded the goal shows this clearly; they almost always won the second balls. We weren’t strict in our structure. And then there were the missed penalties… However, we created chances to score more than Fiorentina. Winning matches in Serie A is difficult, especially if you miss two penalties and concede a goal like the second one… We have to be objective; that’s how it is.”
What did you like the least? Your opinion on the referee?
“I don’t like to talk about refereeing, but this is not Football. Football is made of contacts, and a touch shouldn’t be enough to award a penalty. A simple touch is all it takes; we saw that this weekend as well. Then we all get nervous, and it becomes a problem; this is football, not a circus. And I’m not just talking about the penalty given against us but also those awarded to us… How many penalties do we see in Serie A?”
Who is the penalty taker for Milan?
“It should never happen again; I told the players. I’m angry; the taker is Christian (Pulisic).”
Fonseca also said:
“It doesn’t matter if there are rumours; they are not important to me.”
How do you explain the drop in performance?
“In Italy, when you win, you’ve played a great match. We didn’t score, and we’re the worst team in the world, just like I’m the worst coach. I know how things are, but I can’t be like that.”
