Finalization of the agreement for the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project – Telquel.ma

DFrom August 27 to 30, 2024, a crucial workshop was organized in Abidjan by the Economic Commission for West Africa (ECOWAS).

This workshop, which brought together the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) of Morocco and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited), allowed experts from the countries crossed by the gas pipeline to finalize the technical and strategic details of the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) and the Host Government Agreement (HGA), ONHYM said. in a press release published on LinkedIn.

During this meeting, the experts recalled the importance of the IGA, described as a crucial treaty defining the rules for the management and governance of the gas pipeline system.In accordance with any cross-border gas pipeline project, the IGA is a treaty between the crossed states which defines the rules for the operation, management and governance of the gas pipeline system.”, the press release underlines.

As for the HGA, it governs the relations between the project company and the host states, ensuring that the infrastructures comply with local requirements.

The Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline project is seen as a strategic initiative not only for the economic integration of the sub-region, but also for the fight against desertification.
