Today, Wednesday, August 28, the 17th Paralympic will start in Paris, extending from August 28 to September 8.

The Paralympic Games are the second largest international multi-sport event, involving athletes with special needs, including muscle weakness (such as paraplegia, quadriplegia, muscular dystrophy, post-polio syndrome), movement impairment resulting from limb impairment such as amputation, as well as short stature, muscle tension, ataxia, visual impairment and developmental disability.

This session will see the participation of 4,400 male and female players from most countries of the world, competing for medals in 22 official Paralympic games, which are shooting, athletics, badminton, blind football, boccia, boating, cycling, equestrian, goalball, judo, weightlifting, rowing, shooting, sitting volleyball, Paralympic swimming, Paralympic , taekwondo, , wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby, and wheelchair tennis.

This year, the opening ceremony will not be held inside an Olympic stadium, but rather in the ancient streets of Paris, such as the Champs-Élysées.

According to the official website of the competition, “the athletes’ procession will walk through the famous Champs-Élysées to the Place de la Concorde,” where security authorities have set up a security perimeter around the opening area, which is expected to last for 3 hours.

65,000 spectators are expected to witness this historic moment, which highlights the host city’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
