In a touching statement to the magazine, Mariah Carey expressed her deep sorrow, saying: “My heart is broken because I lost my mother this week. And unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, my sister also passed away on the same day.”
“I am grateful to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away,” Maria added. “I appreciate the love, support and respect for my privacy during this difficult time.”
It is worth noting that Mariah Carey’s relationship with her mother, Patricia, has always been complicated, as she revealed some details of this relationship in her memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” which was published in 2020.
Maria explained in her memoirs: “My relationship with my mother was not easy. It was a mixture of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment. It was a complicated love that linked my heart to my mother’s heart.”
Her relationship with her older sister, Alison, who was ten years older than her, was also full of tension and complexity.
In her memoirs, Maria accused her sister of several acts of violence, including: “When I was twelve years old, my sister drugged me with Valium, placed a nail filled with cocaine in front of me, and caused me third-degree burns.”
Allison responded by suing Maria for defamation, accusing her of “using her public position to attack her” at a time when she was living in poverty, and that she “used these sensational allegations to promote the sale of her book.”
