LE FIGARO.- France has been without a fully functioning government for 45 days. Is Emmanuel Macron delaying in appointing a prime minister?

Nicolas SARKOZY.- Have we really become aware of the seriousness of the situation in our country? France is facing three simultaneous crises that could explode either at the same time or successively. The first is the risk of a financial crisis. Given France’s debt, its deficits and its excessive spending, I do not think it is prudent to remain without a government or Minister of Finance with the added risk of not having a budget! Then there is the possibility of a social crisis, which is a French tradition. There are many examples in our recent history of social conflicts that have degenerated.

Finally, a political crisis. A month and a half without a government, after a dissolution that I persist in saying was a mistake, and a disintegration of all the democratic parties that have never been so divided. France is truly on the brink of a precipice. Moreover, the far left in our country does not want to govern. This is much more of an attempted coup d’état by La France Insoumise than a desire for democratic change in the face of a parliamentary situation that is impossible to resolve. It is an understatement to say that there are many reasons for concern.
