First Klopp, now Paris? Red Bull probably interested in taking over

After the spectacular signing of Jürgen Klopp, the energy drink giant Red Bull is apparently planning to expand its activities in professional football. Apparently the focus is on a Parisian professional club.

As the AFP news agency reported on Wednesday evening, citing a source familiar with the matter, the group is linked to a takeover bid for the French second division club FC.

Discussions are currently underway between the club, which leads Ligue 2 after eight matchdays, and Red Bull and the Arnault family, which owns the luxury brand company LVMH. The reports caused a stir just hours after Klopp announced his return as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull.

The Arnault family and Paris FC declined to comment when contacted by AFP. Businessman and majority shareholder Pierre Ferracci, president of the club since 2012, had already expressed his desire to hand over the helm.

In addition to the clubs in Leipzig and Salzburg, Red Bull also operates teams in New York, Brazil and Japan, among others.
