HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – Today is possibly the last 80 degree day we will see for the year. A cold front pushes through late overnight. A below average Monday is in store temperature wise. Temperatures in Eastern Kentucky are forecasted for the high 60s although higher elevation areas could be in the mid 60s.

DISCUSSION

The next week looks to be 10 or 15 degrees cooler than this weekend with highs in the high 60s and some possible low 70s. Overnight lows will be the biggest difference as temperatures crawl into the low 40s (and possibly high 30s in higher elevations). The term “sweater weather” best applies to this week before a decent warmup next weekend and then another cooldown.

LOOKING AHEAD

The pattern has shifted a bit for the next two weeks. What looked to be a bit cooler now will be warmer than normal into next week. This is due to high pressure moving into the area and changing the northerly winds from this week into warmer more southerly winds. Over the next two weeks rain chances will be minimal and mid 70s temperatures are forecasted.
