The assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah, in an Israeli attack last Friday, sparked mixed reactions in Arab countries, especially in the countries of the Maghreb.

Some expressed sympathy and sadness, as Islamic parties in Algeria, such as the Movement for Society for Peace, denounced the operation and described Nasrallah as a martyr, as well as in Mauritania, where the Union and Change Party described the operation as a heinous crime.

As for Morocco, Sheikh Al-Fizazi sparked controversy with his statements in which he attacked Nasrallah and considered him hostile to Morocco’s interests, while other Moroccans denounced the Israeli operations in Gaza and Lebanon, and declared in solidarity protests their support for the two peoples and their denunciation of normalization with Israel.
