A new US Open champion will be crowned on Saturday afternoon in New York. No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka is set to face American and No. 6 seed Jessica Pegula in the women’s singles final from Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Both Sabalenka and Pegula are looking for their first US Open crown. Sabalenka has earned a pair of Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open the last two years, but she came up short against American Coco Gauff in this final a year ago.
Pegula, meanwhile, is in her first career Grand Slam final. She had never even reached the semifinals at a major before this tournament and has really amplified her play. She took down No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals in straight sets before needing a rally against Karolina Muchova in the semis to reach this pivotal match.
These two met one month earlier in another tournament final when Sabalenka took the Cincinnati Open crown in straight sets.
