Last month, we revealed that Disney had fired Beau DeMayo, the creator and showrunner of the animated series X-Men ’97following serious accusations. However, DeMayo seems not to want to leave it there, having then taken the decision to file a complaint against Marvel following his dismissal. We tell you everything.

DeMayo’s Counterattack Against Marvel

Debuting in March 2024 on Disney+, the American animated series X-Men ’97 was expected by manysince it is the first Marvel Studios project featuring the famous mutant team since Disney bought Fox. But it is also because it follows the famous series X-Men (or X-Men: The Animated Series in the original version) from the 1990s.

A sequel that has won over fans, so much so that they will be able to find the Marvel superheroes again in season 2 of X-Men ’97and it even seems that a third season has already been in production for several months. But just before the series was set to premiere, we learned that its creator Beau DeMayo was no longer part of the project. At that time, we did not yet have any information about the reasons for his departure.

But as mentioned at the beginning of the article, it was last August that we finally had more details on the subject, with Disney and Marvel revealing that he had been fired due to the “flagrant nature of the conclusions” of an investigation into behavior deemed reprehensible, being then accused of sexual harassment. But DeMayo has countered that he was removed in part because of LGBTQ fan art he shared.suggesting that his dismissal was rather due to the rigidity of the company.

And according to DeadlineBryan Freedman, DeMayo’s attorney, then allegedly filed a complaint this week in Los Angeles Superior Court in order to have an “illegal non-disparagement clause” removed from the screenwriter’s release documents. DeMayo has also taken to OnlyFans to denounce the actions of Kevin Feige at Marvel and Bob Iger at Disney.

The rumors circulating about me are lies that I consider particularly offensive. But the most disturbing thing is that all of this is part of a smear campaign created to discredit me, in order to cover up the serious misconduct of some of the members of the team that accompanied me on X-Men ’97, all the way to the top of Marvel Studios.

Ultimately, the data Marvel leaked is meant to distract you from the real reason I was fired. Someone like me dared to tell the truth to people like them. They wanted me to serve as a black, gay token on this project, and I refused. They wanted to erase the aspects of me that conflicted with, or that they felt were inconvenient to, the narrative they were trying to push around the show. And I refused. They tried to intimidate me with threats, both explicit and implicit. I was not intimidated. Everything they have done since then is only to silence me, to smear me, to crush me and remind me that I belong.

I have the receipts and the eyewitnesses, as long as you stop forcing them to lie, you can continue to attack me with lies and misinformation, but we can become the ugliest, most boring version of that… or you can start acting like a studio that is worthy of a series like X-Men ’97.
