François Bayrou chose to appoint François Rebsamen Minister responsible for regional planning and decentralizationthis Monday, December 23. Before joining the government, the former mayor of Dijon had a unique journey. It was in this city that he began his political career since he served two terms, in 2001 and then in 2008. That same year, he became a senator for Côte-d'Or, the first under the socialist label since 1948. Under the presidency of François Hollande, Prime Minister Manuel Valls appointed him Minister of Labor.
In August 2015, after the death of Alain Millot, first deputy who had taken the reins of Dijon during the absence of François Rebsamen, he left the government and resumed his role as mayor. The following year, he refused the post of Minister of the Interior, prioritizing his function as city councilor. In April 2018, he announced that he was suffering from cancer. He is then forced to delegate his functions. Four months later, he returned to Dijon political life, claiming to be able to resume his activities.

During the 2022 presidential campaign, François Rebsamen brings his support for Emmanuel Macroneven if he has always opposed numerous measures supported by the President of the Republic such as the abolition of the ISF or the unemployment insurance reforms. It was in November 2024 that the mayor of Dijon made the decision to hand over to his first deputy, Nathalie Koenders. “When I look at the action accomplished, I consider that the time has come for me to transmit”he admits in a press release. However, it remains president of Dijon Métropole. From now on, he will have to serve the country and will be responsible for regional planning and decentralization. “I am ready to commit”he declared the day before his appointment.
