Israel announces it has intercepted a missile fired from Yemen
“The Israeli Air Force intercepted a missile launched from Yemen before it entered Israeli territory”the army said Thursday in a statement.
The warning sirens were triggered “in several areas of central Israel” because of “the possibility of falling debris following interception”according to this same source.
The Al-Massirah media, which reports to Yemen’s Houthi rebels, reported attacks on the country after Israel intercepted the missile. “A series of aggressive raids targeted the capital Sanaa, as well as the coastal province of Hodeidah in the west of the country, on Thursday morning”he said. According to the media, two power plants and oil infrastructure were targeted while four raids targeted the port of Hodeidah, under rebel control.
On Monday, the Israeli army also announced that it had intercepted a missile, the launch of which from Yemen had been claimed by the Houthi rebels, supported by Iran. They claimed to have targeted “a military objective of the Israeli enemy in the occupied area of Yaffa”the Arabic name for Jaffa, a district of Tel Aviv, stating that “the operation had successfully achieved its objectives”.
The Houthis have already launched several attacks against Israel, claiming to act in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The Houthi insurgents, who control large parts of Yemen, also regularly attack ships linked according to them to Israel, the United States or the United Kingdom in the Red Sea and in the Gulf of Aden, despite the strikes carried out by the American army, sometimes with the help of British forces.
