The last chiffres of the population of Hauts-de-France have just been communicated by theINSEE. The trend is towards a slight increase in number of inhabitants in the North while the trend is opposite in Pas-de-Calais. We take stock.
The population of the North on the rise, that of Pas-de-Calais on the decline
Let us first note that these figures date from 2022. The population is 2,616,909 inhabitants in the Northan increase of +0.1% over the period 2016-2022.
In the Pas-de-Calaison the contrary, we note a drop of – 0.1% over the same period with a figure established at 1 460 184 habitants in 2022.
The two departments remain largely the most populated in Hauts-de-France ahead of Oise (830,725 inhabitants), Somme (565,540 inhabitants) and Aisne (525,558). That is a total population for the region of 5,998,916 inhabitants. Which represents 9.1% of the French metropolitan population and places Hauts-de-France at the 5th place among the most populated regions of Francebehind Île-de-France, Auverge-Rhône-Alpes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie.
“Between 2016 and 2022, the regional population remains almost stable (- 1,330 inhabitants per year) while that of mainland France records growth of 0.4% per year on average,” notes INSEE in its analysis.
