War in Ukraine: air alerts in kyiv, “victory plan”… Update on the night

The presence of Russian attack drones in kyiv and several regions of Ukraine has led to air alerts being triggered.

In Brussels, the President of the European Council Charles Michel invited Volodymyr Zelensky to present his “victory plan” this Thursday, October 17 in front of the 27 heads of state and government of the EU.

In view of the presidential election being held on Sunday in Moldova, the United States has pledged to help the small Eastern European country in the face of “Russian electoral interference”.

Air alerts in kyiv, Kharkiv bombed

The Ukrainian Air Force said Tuesday evening that it had spotted Shahed attack drones, the Ukrinform news agency reports.

On Telegram, authorities indicate that alerts have been triggered in the capital kyiv as well as in several regions in the north and east of the country.

In Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov also reported explosions in the city, targeted by Russian guided aerial bombs. “Be careful, there are still drones in the air”added the elected official.

Zelensky invited to present his ‘victory plan’ at EU summit

On social media, European Council President Charles Michel said he had invited the Ukrainian president “at the European Council summit on Thursday October 17 to take stock of the latest developments in Russia’s war against Ukraine and present its plan for victory.” Volodymyr Zelensky is seeking support from kyiv’s Western allies as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine enters its third year.

Washington pledges to help Moldova in the face of “Russian electoral interference”

Exiled oligarch Ilan Shor is targeted by American and European sanctions. Moldova has long demanded his extradition to Israel, his country of birth where he fled after being targeted in 2019 by a corruption investigation nicknamed “the theft of the century”.

Outgoing President Maia Sandu, who has resolutely turned this former Soviet republic of 2.6 million inhabitants towards the West, is seen as the favorite for her own succession.
