At least three people died in a bus crash on the northwest coast of Norway on Thursday. Four others are seriously injured. The results of this accident are not yet final.
A bus accident caused the death of several people this Thursday, December 26, in the Hadsel district on the northwest coast of Norway, according to local police.
The bus left the road and then the vehicle found itself partially in a body of water, according to public television channel NRK. At least three people died and four others were seriously injured. The circumstances of the accident have not yet been defined.
58 passengers on the bus
Although no definitive report has yet been communicated by the authorities, the chief of staff of the local police told local media that 58 people were on board the bus, including many foreign passengers, of at least eight different countries.
Emergency services and police were dispatched to the scene, near the Raftsundet Strait, separating the Lofoten and Vesterålen archipelagos, and all passengers on the bus were evacuated, some to a nearby school.
For its part, the Norwegian Red Cross announced that it was “transporting personnel” to the scene of the accident, specifying that “the extent of the damage is currently unclear”.
“Weather conditions in the area are poor, complicating rescue operations,” police said.
Strong gusts are underway in the region. “The priority now is to treat the injured, and an investigation will also be launched to clarify the course of events,” local authorities said.
Every year, Norway welcomes many tourists who come to observe its fjords, its midnight sun and its northern lights.
