Taekwondo player, gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Firas Kattoussi, said he was happy to be crowned best sportsman of the year 2024 by the 13th referendum of the Tunis-Afrique-Presse Agency. “This consecration will not fail to push me to give the best of me and to shine more during the next events,” he assured in a statement made to TAP on Tuesday.
Kattoussi explained that his coronation in Paris in his discipline and his category (80 kg) was the most beautiful moment he experienced in 2024, affirming that this Olympic feat and the fact of entering the history of world taekwondo is the result of colossal effort and hard work. “I still live in the euphoria of the Olympic coronation in Paris and only discipline, seriousness and continuity allow such exploits,” said Kattoussi.
The Olympic champion did not fail to express his gratitude to all the parties who had supported and supported him to realize his dream, citing in particular the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the Tunisian National Olympic Committee (CNOT) and the Tunisian Taekwondo Federation, ensuring that he will continue to work with the same vigor in anticipation of the 2025 world championships.
The future objective for Firas Kattoussi is to win his ticket very early for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games in the United States, taking advantage of his favorable ranking among the top 5 in the world.
As a reminder, Kattoussi, 29, was crowned on Tuesday the best Tunisian sportsman of the year 2024 by the TAP Agency referendum, totaling 561 points ahead of fencer Fares Ferjani (2nd, 395 points) and taekwondoist Khalil Jendoubi (3rd, 388 points).
