Most of the trains coming from or going to the south-east of France were blocked on the tracks this Tuesday evening, due to a personal accident in the south of the Marne.
The evening of Christmas Eve was very special for the passengers of dozens of trains stranded south of Seine-et-Marne for what the SNCF modestly calls a “personal accident”.
A type of incident which most of the time means that trains are stopped due to a suicide on the tracks. Incidents on which the SNCF communicates very rarely. And it was the case again this Tuesday evening of Christmas Eve where the subject was even more delicate at this time of year.
A journalist from Radio France testified, this Tuesday at the very end of the evening, from the train where he was stuck. In view of the tragedy which caused the trains to stop, the travelers did not seem, according to him, angry at having missed their family New Year's Eve but they had visibly taken the matter with philosophy and a certain fatalism. According to Franceinfo, the travelers improvised their makeshift New Year's Eve essentially by storming the train's bar car.
Occurring in the evening, the accident caused traffic jams on the TGV line in the south-east of France. The trains were able to be switched to more traditional tracks but the delays accumulated were considerable.
Thus, shortly before 1 a.m. this Wednesday, very early, some trains were up to 5 hours behind schedule.
