Woman rescued from the waters of Richelieu: disturbing new details about the alleged murder attempt

According to new information, Abdennour Maalala appeared last Friday in an apartment building to kidnap his ex-partner, who allegedly ended their relationship last month.

Residents say they are still upset by this event.

“My son hasn’t recovered. He thinks we’re not safe,” a resident told Noovo Info.

Mr. Maalala then allegedly transported him in the back seat of a vehicle before going to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. He allegedly abandoned his vehicle and his ex in the Richelieu River and fled by swimming. This is the last time the suspect was reportedly seen.

The 23-year-old woman was saved at the last minute by the authorities. Hypothermic and seriously injured. She is now out of danger.

Divers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) patrolled the waters of the Richelieu River to find the suspect. However, the efforts were inconclusive.

Authorities are asking for the public's help in finding this dangerous fugitive, who could face charges of kidnapping, forcible confinement and attempted murder.

For its part, SOS domestic violence asks women who fear their partner's reaction during a breakup to contact them and speak to a worker.

“Believe yourself when you are afraid and feel bad,” said Claudine Thibodeau of SOS domestic violence.
