Work to connect the commune of Aït Chafaâ, around fifty kilometers east of the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou, to the natural gas network is continuing and has reached a progress rate of more than 80%.
According to recent statements from energy department officials, no less than 2,168 households are affected by this project. As a reminder, this is the very last municipality in the wilaya not yet connected to the natural gas network. The population concerned will, however, have to be patient for a few more weeks.
During his last media outing, the director of the sector, in fact, explained that the commissioning of city gas for this municipality will not take place before the end of next January. “With the necessary technical tests and the implementation of all safety measures, we intend to put natural gas into service for this municipality by the end of January 2025”, specifying that in this way, “we will achieve 100% coverage of the wilaya,” he declared.
In this regard, the manager recalled, in this wake, that “currently only the transport work remains to be completed. The 2,168 homes are fully connected to the distribution network. As for the transport network, we have completed 9.2 km out of the 10.4 km planned. We are therefore at approximately 89% of the progress rate.
We intend to complete the remaining 1,200 linear meters very quickly. In another register, the director of energy announced on the same occasion that an additional program issued by his services to the supervisory ministry concerning the needs of the wilaya for the year 2025 will soon be granted. This concerns, he stressed, the connection to electricity and gas, respectively for 35,000 and 15,000 homes.
