He's a disco legend who just died. Alfa Anderson, singer with a golden voicebest known for having been part of the legendary group Chic in the 70s, has died at the age of 78. The causes of his death have not been specified. On his Instagram account, his former collaborator from the training of ChicNile Rodgerssoberly announced this disappearance this Tuesday, December 17. “Thank you for everything”, he wrote in the caption of a video montage where we see him alongside the singer, to the music of At least I am free.

Alfa Anderson was the lead singer of Chic, co-founded by Rodgers and Bernard Edwards in 1976. Spearhead of the disco movement, the group famously a worldwide success with titles like Le Freak et Good Times. Alfa Anderson joined the adventure from the beginning, providing vocals on tracks like Good Times, Everybody Dance et I want your love. Cult songs which will subsequently be sampled by renowned artists such as Will Smith, Michael Jackson, and Kylie Minogue.

In addition to her activities with Chic, the woman who was born in 1946 in the state of Georgia collaborated in 1978 with music producer Quincy Jones on the film's soundtrack. She also notably became a singer for Mick Jagger. Married to producer, composer and bass player Eluriel “Tinkr” Barfieldtogether they created the group Voice of Shalom, dedicated to exploring spirituality through music. Together, they released two studio albums: Message in 1999, and Daily Bread in 2005. It was not until 2017 that she released her first solo album, Music from my heart, presented in front of a packed room in New York.
