– François Bayrou intends to announce his government before Christmas. This Sunday therefore seems to be the last window, with Monday being reserved for national mourning, in memory of the victims of Cyclone Chido in Mayotte.
– Discussions continue throughout the weekend. If Horizons has made its availability known, on the LR side, we are still negotiating, even if the agreements on sovereign issues should make it possible to find an agreement.
– Several names are put forward within Macronie, notably that of former Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne.
– On the left, apart from the former mayor of Dijon François Rebsamen, a long-time convert to Macronism, there seems to be no enthusiasm for joining the government.
The return of Borne and Darmanin?
Among the names circulating to join this Bayrou government, those of two heavyweights from Macronie come back insistently. Former Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne could be entrusted with National Education. We also mention the return of the former Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, on the condition that he be entrusted with the prestigious Quai d'Orsay. Another former Macronist minister returning, Sarah El Haïry (MoDem), who could become government spokesperson.
A new meeting with Emmanuel Macron
The Prime Minister must meet again with the President of the Republic, after a first meeting this Sunday morning. It therefore seems that the process is accelerating and that the composition of the government could be announced at the end of the day. Two ministries are, however, at the center of the negotiations: foreign affairs, an area reserved for the Head of State, and that of the Economy, which will be particularly sensitive to reaching a compromise on the 2025 budget.
