FACT OF THE DAY A look back in pictures at the sublime sound and light show at Grau-du-Roi

A magical and historic moment. This Saturday evening, nearly 300 spectators were present for the launch of the sound and light show broadcast on the facade of the old Grau-du-Roi lighthouse.

Kick-off! Saturday December 21 at 7 p.m., Grau-du-Roi launched its end-of-year festivities, with its incredible sound and light show projected on the old lighthouse. This representation has a real history. In 2019, the Camargue commune celebrated its 140th anniversary. For this event, the City asked a production company to create a show with special lighting effects, synchronized with a soundtrack, which would be projected on the old rehabilitated lighthouse. The name of this creation is “The lighthouse depicts the people of the sea”.

“We hold this production as a heritage, and we had the idea of rebroadcasting it this year, to give it back to Graulens but also to our visitors”, supports Robert Crauste, mayor of Grau-du-Roi. The performance lasts 19 minutes. Starting this Saturday, the show will be broadcast for free every evening at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., until December 31. “The history of Grau-du-Roi is retraced. There are references to the sea, fishing and the seaside town. It’s magnificent,” rejoices Robert Crauste.

An invitation from the mayor

After the performance, wine and hot chocolate were offered to the audience. Nearly 300 spectators left the lighthouse, stars in their eyes. It was a beautiful moment of conviviality and sharing. “We are pleased to invite our neighboring territories, including the Gardoises, to come and take a walk at Grau-du-Roi to enjoy this spectacle. And why not, come and taste a good fish in our restaurants”, indicates the mayor.

For the Christmas holidays, a children's village is set up on the square in front of the town hall. From December 22 to January 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., activities and games are planned: visit from Santa Claus, carriage ride, wooden games, inflatable structures… On December 28 at the end of the afternoon, lanterns will be distributed at the foot of the lighthouse. Then, there will be a parade to city hall, where a magnificent fireworks display is planned to end the evening in style.
