This adorable ginger cat has, in fact, become the “adoptive father” not of a kitten, but of a baby opossum separated from its mother. The cat accepted him as if he were part of his family and spontaneously began to watch over him.
The young didelphid was clearly delighted and relieved to find such a source of comfort after losing his parent. It literally clung to the cat's fur, as we can see in the video below, captured by the owner ofOliver first name Toniposted on TikTok and relayed by Parade Pets :

Toni and the rest of the household wondered how the baby opossum had managed to get into their home. They then remembered that they had recently discovered an adult female in their living room and that she had entered through the cat flap.

Trapped on the couch
The most likely hypothesis is therefore that the mother opossum had hidden her little one somewhere, in one of the rooms of the house, before leaving the premises. The poor marsupial must have been terrified finding himself alone in this place he didn't know. In search of a safe place, he ended up hiding inside a sofa and found himself trapped there.
Toni and his family cut up part of the furniture to free him and he immediately came under the protection ofOliver.

A few days later, the baby opossum was entrusted to a center dedicated to wild animals. There he receives all the care he needs to grow in the best conditions.
