India-Russia GTC on the fight against terrorism
At the Joint Working Group meeting, India and Russia shared their experiences in combating terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, extremism and agreed to strengthen cooperation to address issues of radicalization as well as the financing of terrorism.
They also discussed current global and regional terrorist threats and countering the use of new emerging technologies for terrorist purposes.
Highlights from the GTC on Counter-Terrorism
Cross-border terrorism: Both sides stressed the importance of combating cross-border terrorist activities and ensuring regional stability.
Terrorist Financing: The discussion focused on measures to prevent the financing of terrorist organizations, a crucial aspect of global counterterrorism efforts.
Emerging Threats: The use of new emerging technologies by terrorist groups has been highlighted as a growing challenge, requiring innovative solutions and joint action.
In both meetings, India was represented by Secretary (West) at MEA Tanmaya Lal and Russia was represented by the country's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin.
Earlier, during his visit to Russia, Secretary (West) of India Tanmaya Lal also held a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Galuzin and discussed international and regional issues current events, in particular the conflict in Ukraine.
