The general command of the armed opposition factions in Syria announced today Saturday the appointment of Asaad Al-Chibani as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the new government.
Asaad Hassan Al-Chibani was born in the town of Al-Hasakah in 1987. He lived in Damascus with his family, where he studied up to university level. He was known by several aliases including: Naseem, Abu Aisha, Abu Ammar Al-Shami, Hussam Al-Shafi'i and the most recent is Zaid Al-Attar.
He graduated in 2009 from the Faculty of Arts and Political Sciences of Damascus University, specializing in English language and literature. He then obtained a master's degree in political science and foreign relations from Sabah al-Din Zaim University in Turkey in 2022, where he completed his doctorate in the same specialty in 2024.
Chibani joined the Syrian opposition in 2011 and helped establish the “Syrian Salvation Government” in 2017. During his presidency of the “Department of Political Affairs”, he met with officials of United Nations agencies and the main external organizations operating in the city of Idlib, controlled by Hay'aat Tahrir al-Sham until the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime, as well as by political and diplomatic representatives.
The “Al-Ma'rifa” website indicates that the new Syrian foreign minister, who resided in Turkey until the end of 2024, is one of the founders of the former Al-Nusra Front, alongside Abu Muhammad Al-Julani, Ahmed Al-Sharaa currently.
