INSEE revealed on Thursday December 19, 2024 the figures for the 2022 legal population across the entire French territory. In Haute-Garonnewe now count 1 456 261 habitants. A department which gains the most inhabitants in France, it is driven by the demographic dynamism of Toulouse, the future 3rd city in France with its 511 684 habitants.

All the major towns in the department are gaining residents
Please note that the 20 largest municipalities in Haute-Garonne (all located in the urban area of Toulouse, with the exception of Saint-Gaudens) all display an increase of their population: from + 0.29% per year between 2016 and 2022 to Worry (25,653 inhabitants), which is returning to growth after years of decline, at + 3.58% on the Saint-Orens-de-Gameville (14,229 inhabitants), the city which is growing the fastest in this top 20.
Who are the winners and losers of the year?
Among the municipalities of more than 2,000 inhabitantsthe five where the population increases the most are all located in the north-Toulouse. A platoon led by Saint-Jory (7 996 habitants, + 5,8 %).
Conversely, those which lose the most inhabitants are in the south, in the Comminges and the Volvester. The city with the biggest drop in population is the one nicknamed “the Queen of the Pyrenees”, Bagnères-de-Luchon (2 081 habitants, -1,8 %).
All sizes of municipalities combined, the records are both recorded in small villages in Luchonnais: the largest increase is noted in Bourg-d’Oueilfamous for its ski resort which is the least expensive in the Pyrenees (13 inhabitants, + 13.7%) and the biggest drop not far from there, at Cazarilh-Laspènes (14 habitants, -10,9 %).
