The figures published on December 18, 2024 by INSEE reflect the results of the census over the period 2016-2022 and which will be the official population figures as of January 1, 2025.

Locminé gains residents

The Morbihan department gained 28,874 inhabitants between 2016 and 2022. The Covid effect obviously has something to do with it. This increase in the Morbihan population (+ 0.6% per year) is stronger than that of Côtes-d’Armor or Finistère but less than that of Ille-et-Vilaine with + 0.9%.

On the 36 municipalities in the area covered by the Gazette (around Locminé, Saint-Jean-Brévelay, Baud, Pluvigner, Grand-Champ, Rohan) most gain inhabitants or do not lose any.

126 fewer souls in Moustoir-Ac

Only 9 municipalities (Bignan, Moréac, Évellys, Réguiny, Crédin Rohan, Bréhan, Billio and Moustoir-Ac) show a negative balance between -0.1% and -2%. Moustoir-Ac and Billio showed the biggest losses between -1.1 and -2%. Moustoir-Ac thus lost 126 inhabitants in six years for a total now established at 1,713 inhabitants. Billio has 324 inhabitants, a decrease of 1.79%.

Locqueltas shows the strongest growth

Everywhere else it is population stability or gain. The municipalities often considered as the “third crown” of show notable demographic growth. For example, the population of Locminé (4,708 inhabitants) is up 1.8% compared to 2016. Same phenomenon for municipalities even closer to the Vannetaise agglomeration or Auray (Brandivy, Grand-Champ, Plescop, Locmaria-Grand-Champ and Locqueltas) which are all making strong progress. The prize goes to Locqueltas with an increase of 2.62% or 2,023 inhabitants, 291 more than in 2016.

Note that the general population of is now 3,422,845 inhabitants. A region that remains dynamic and attractive: 113,316 people joined the ranks of Bretons between 2016 and 2022.
