Rail traffic between Nîmes and Montpellier was suspended this Thursday, December 19 at the beginning of the afternoon, due to a “personal accident”, according to information communicated by the SNCF on the social network occurred this Thursday shortly before 2 p.m., near the Aigues-Vives level crossing, in the area of the Syngenta company.
In a tweet published shortly after 2 p.m., the SNCF specifies: “a person was hit by a train between Nîmes and Montpellier. Traffic is therefore interrupted on this portion while our teams and emergency services intervene on site.. The time for traffic to resume was estimated at 4 p.m.
According to the newspaper Free Middaythe regional express train (TER) involved in the accident was traveling between Montpellier and Nîmes. The person struck, believed to be a woman, died instantly. Firefighters, gendarmes and municipal police officers quickly rushed to the scene.
The TER is currently stopped between the level crossing and the town of Mus (Gard), and traffic is interrupted in both directions. The suicide trail is not confirmed at this time.
SNCF calls on travelers to be patient and recommends keeping informed of developments in the situation on its official platforms. Recovery times could be extended depending on the progress of investigations and on-site interventions.
