In 2006, Zinedine Zidane
bowed out but never completely abandoned the football fields. Asked by Colinterview on the match he preferred during his career, the football legend gave an answer which may surprise his supporters.
Gentsu tells you everything.
Zinedine Zidane put away his crampons for good after the 2006 World Cup. A choice which greatly disappointed his supporters who had difficulty saying goodbye to him. However,
Zizou could have continued and don’t say stop at 34.
Thierry Henry’s former colleague explained on this subject:
Did I get a little athlete’s shit when I stopped? No, because when I stopped, I really wanted to stop. I made my decision and I was sure of myself. I couldn’t stand going green anymore. It wasn’t football or being with friends that annoyed me. That’s terrible, that’s what made me stop. Being with my friends, playing, even training, I loved it. You were bragging, you were making little bridges, which you don’t do too much in a match because you have to win and you have to be more serious.
Zinédine Zidane reveals his favorite match of his career…and it’s not the World Cup
Zinedine Zidane has quite a track record as a footballer since he thrilled the French thanks to the victory of the World Cup in 1998. He notably scored the decisive goal for the Madrilenians to win the Champions League in 2002, not to mention his performances during the World Cup in 2006. But it was not these matches that marked Zizou
as he indicated at Colinterview :
The problem with choosing is that there are a lot of matches during which I had fun. There are important matches, matches in which people recognize themselves and which they highlight each time. But I have one in particular who speaks to me, and I wasn’t in Madrid yet. I was at Juventus Turin, and it was a Champions League semi-final against Ajax Amsterdam.
Zinedine Zidane added:
We won 4 goals to 1 in the return match, and so here, I’m talking about the whole team, we had an exceptional match. And I had been more than fine. The question is what is happening on the ground. And that evening, I was like on cloud nine. I knew I was going to score, make a score, and I did it. I felt particularly good.
Zinedine Zidane talks about the semi-final second leg of the 1997 Champions League. And you, what is your favorite match?
