In a note published in December 2024, Depp looks at theevolution of teachers’ salaries holders between 2021 and 2022, all bodies combined. According to this note, the average salary of teachers in constant euros remains generally stable, but individual salary developments are contrasting.

44% of teachers suffered a salary cut in 2022

The note thus underlines that the average salary of tenured teachers increases by 3.7% between 2021 and 2022, but, given the context of significant inflation, their average salary in constant euros, decrease of 1.4%. However, Depp explains this decline by the renewal of the teaching population, the new tenured members of the year being less well paid than retiring teachers. By restricting the calculation to teachers paid in both 2021 and 2022, the average salary stagnates (-0.2%).

But this average hides disparities: of all teachers, 40% benefit from a salary increase in constant euros, 16% stagnate and 44% suffer a salary reduction. These individual variations can be explained in particular by the remuneration for overtime worked.

The gross salary of a PLP 17% higher than that of a primary school teacher

On average, indicates Depp, in 2022, the average salary of a tenured teacherall bodies combined, amounts to 2,740 euros net per month. This average also includes part-time teachers. A full-time teacher earns on average 2,810 euros (2,040 euros for part-time staff). Unsurprisingly, it is the professors of higher chairs and the associates who perceive the highest average salaries : 3,740 net per month on average. Only 10% of these teachers receive less than 2,600 euros per month, while, the note underlines, 50% of school teachers earn less than 2,500 euros per month.

Furthermore, certified teachers earn on average 10% more gross than school teachers, PE teachers 12% more and vocational high school teachers (PLP) 17% more. These differences are explained in particular by the possibility of working paid overtime in the secondary sector.
