Recent videos of fighting in Russia’s Kursk region are believed to be the first evidence of offensives by North Korean soldiers against Ukrainian positions. A bunch of clues make the hypothesis probable and a video behind the front seems to confirm it.
For the first time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky affirmed this: “Russia sends North Korean soldiers to storm Ukrainian positions.” According to the commander-in-chief of the Kyiv forces, Oleksandr Syrsky, this is a counter-offensive «intense» launched on December 14 and which is limited, for the moment, to the Russian region of Kursk, where Ukraine launched a cross-border incursion in August. A counter-offensive confirmed by the North American authorities and which has already caused losses among the North Korean military. “Several hundred casualties, this is our latest estimate of North Korea’s losses,” a senior American military official told AFP, on condition of anonymity. A South Korean MP confirmed these figures on Thursday, November 19, citing “at least 100 North Koreans killed”.
Since December 14, more than ten videos and photos of the fights have been circulating on social networks. If most Internet users affirm that the soldiers present in these images are indeed North Korean, CheckNews is currently unable to confirm their nationalities with certainty. However, the modus operandi of these infantrymen, their Asian appearance and the official declarations of the Ukrainians and Americans make this a solid hypothesis. A recent video even tends to confirm it.
