Despite its unacceptable price, the PS5 Pro is selling very well all over the world

The PS5 Pro is selling very well. Despite a hefty price of up to 1000 euros if you add the base and the Blu-Ray player sold separately, which is already unacceptable, Sony is selling its console by entire pallets according to the first reports.

  • Despite a prohibitive price, Sony’s PS5 Pro sells very well around the world
  • But this success is due to early adopters, it is possible that sales will subsequently collapse
  • The hefty price of the PS5 Pro does not seem to be holding back gamers

Despite its moderate improvements compared to the PS5 and performances that are not those promised, the Pro version sells very well. It would seem that this modest increase and the very steep price, which Sony assumes, has not slowed down buyers.

The PS5 is selling like hotcakes despite a prohibitive price

Circana analyst Matt Piscatella reveals on Bluesky that the PS5 Pro represents 19% of US PS5 sales in November, its launch month. As a reminder, the PS4 Pro totaled around 20% of overall PS4 sales after its launch in 2016. And the trend is confirmed worldwide. ChartTrack reports that in the UK, the PS5 represents 26% of total console sales in November.

PlayStation 5 Pro accounted for 19% of total PlayStation 5 units sold in the month and 28% of dollars. Launch month dollar sales of PlayStation 5 Pro were more than 50% higher than the November 2016 launch month sales of PlayStation 4 Pro, while units were 12% lower.

Same story in Japan and it’s even more impressive (or worrying?): according to Famitsu, PS5 Pro represents 63% of PS5 sales in Novemberor 78,000 units sold in the first week alone. In the United States, the situation is somewhat different. Sales of the PS5 Pro are slightly lower by 12% compared to the PS4 Pro at its launch, but on the other hand, the revenues generated are higher. The hefty price of the console brings money into Sony’s coffers.

The high price of the PS5 Pro therefore did not impact the early adopters that Sony was aiming for. Despite a higher total bill to purchase the Blu-Ray player (which represents an important, even essential, element), sales are there.

But Sony is not declaring victory too quickly. Signs indicate that sales could subsequently collapse after the early adopters. Supply exceeds demand and some dealers have sold at a loss. Ditto for the scalpers but they deserve it.
