Currently, AMD offers its Ryzen 9000X processors, alongside the Ryzen 9 9900X and 9950X. The 7 series is also present with the Ryzen 7 9700X while the most affordable processor remains the Ryzen 5 9600X. In the meantime, we were treated to the launch of the excellent Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the new absolute king of gaming performance… But that’s all. However, other models are on the program with the Ryzen 9000 non-X. Among the latter, we have the Ryzen 5 9600 which should see the light of day soon.
Ryzen 5 9600 non-X, towards a launch at the end of January?
At AMD we have several series of CPU with the X models, the most efficient, the X3D for gaming and the non-X versions, slightly less efficient, but also more economical. It’s very summary, but basically that’s it.
Here, with this 9600, we expect to find a processor equipped with six cores and twelve threads, but with a TDP downwards. This drop in TDP will lead to a drop in frequencies and therefore performance. However, the customer will benefit in terms of consumption, heating, but also price, this is how the first ones were offered. CPU non-X with the Ryzen 7000. It remains to be seen the selling price, but it may be difficult to find a place between the 9600X at €250 and the Ryzen 5 7600X at €200!

Of course, we expect an announcement of this series during CES in early January 2025. At the same time, we are also waiting for the new AM5 motherboards… Well, their more affordable leaning. Remember that AMD only launched X870(E) models, decidedly high-end and therefore expensive cards. In the new generation, the most affordable models start at around €250 with an Eagle model from Gigabyte.
In order to support the launch of these new Ryzen 9000 non-X, we are therefore waiting for cards equipped with chipsets B850 or even B840. In any case, the schedule holds, with these models not expected to see the light of day before the start of next year.
