The American organization Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has just completed its list of the safest vehicles for 2024, which includes 2024 and some 2025 models.

Ten new players receive the highest distinction, a “Top Safety Pick+” award. These are the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Infiniti QX60, Mazda CX-70 and CX-70 PHEV, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and GLC, Rivian R1S, Subaru Forester, Toyota Tundra and Volvo XC90 T8.

In addition, nine other models received the secondary “Top Safety Pick” award, namely the Audi Q8, Ford F-150 (double cab and crew cab), Infiniti QX80, Kia K4, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Nissan Kicks as well as as the Toyota Corolla and Crown Signia.

To qualify for either award, vehicles must earn good ratings in the small overlap frontal crash test and the new side crash test, an acceptable or good rating in the safety rating frontal collisions with pedestrians, as well as headlights rated as good or acceptable on all versions offered. Additionally, a good rating in the moderate-overlap frontal crash test (which now emphasizes rear-seat safety) is necessary to earn the top honor.

With eight “Top Safety Pick+” awards in total, Mazda is the most awarded brand, proving that safety goes hand in hand with the driving pleasure that the Japanese company is known for. In addition to the CX-70 and CX-70 PHEV, the recipients are the Mazda3 and Mazda3 Sport, CX-30, CX-50, CX-90 and CX-90 PHEV.

“Mazda has once again demonstrated its commitment to safety, acting quickly to meet the higher standards we have adopted for the 2024 ‘Top Safety Pick+’ award,” said IIHS President David Harkey.
