Roast beef at its best price of the year

In order to help our readers cope with, among other things, the repercussions of rising food prices, our new collaborator Myriam Gendron, creator of the site Simply eatoffers a low-cost menu every week based on the best grocery discounts of the week.

Week of December 19 to 25

That’s it… the holiday break has come! For the occasion, I have prepared a slightly different menu for you, but above all very festive.

As Christmas falls in the middle of the week, the goal was to offer you recipes with discounts that would not be too complicated or inconvenient for entertaining that you could dip into! You will also find some ideas to prepare with leftovers, including one for brunch, in addition to a potted recipe to offer that can be prepared in no time!

And a quick reminder: grocery stores will be closed on December 25. Plan ahead!

Happy Holidays…and Happy New Year!

GOOD TO KNOW

Only defrost half the package of smoked salmon and keep the balance. It can be used with egg croissants at brunch. No fresh dill? Half a teaspoon full of its dried equivalent and that’s it!

GOOD TO KNOW

The turkey must have been defrosted: this is the longest step. Calculate approximately 2 hours per kilo when submerged in cold water (still packaged, this is important!). Ideally, you change the water every hour. If necessary, the instructions should be on the packaging (both for defrosting and cooking).

The cranberry sauce will give you about one cup (enough for a meal for four people). Adjust quantities upwards as needed. For side dishes, choose what you prefer, for example mashed potatoes or simply roasted or steamed vegetables. In any case, they can also be used as part of a pork tenderloin meal.

GOOD TO KNOW

This recipe is a starter or side dish, but can be transformed into a complete meal by adding a protein. You could roast chickpeas with the sweet potato for a vegetarian recipe, or even add cheese, but leftover pork would work too! For the vinaigrette, you can also use 2 tbsp. teaspoon dried sage.

For chives, fresh herb (or dried, but only 2 teaspoons) will do the trick. If you don’t have one, you can also opt for whipped cream cheese with chives.

GOOD TO KNOW

As vanilla pods are very expensive, I suggest you use a store-bought shortcut: replacing part of the sugar with a sachet of vanilla sugar (which is usually sold in boxes of six sachets).
